LORI BRANCH

DJ Lori Branch (Lora Branch) has been spinning House Music since before most modern DJs were even a twinkle in their parent's eyes. As a pioneer in her field, Lori's contributions have been understated globally until recently, when the renowned Honey Dijon cited her as a key inspiration.

Lori, a Chicago native, emerged as a trailblazer in the House Music community at a time when female DJs were a rarity. Widely regarded by connoisseurs as one of the greatest DJs in Chicago, regardless of gender, Lori's unique style and passion continue to set her apart. Witnessing her live is an unforgettable experience, as she still brings an undeniable energy to every set. In 2014, Lori was inducted into the Chosen Few's House Music Hall of Fame, named in honor of the legendary Frankie Knuckles. Beyond the decks, she is a writer, documentarian, and radio host.

Lori's solo career boasts residencies at numerous Chicago clubs and opening sets for artists like Meshell Ndegeocello, Lauryn Hill, Arrested Development, and A Tribe Called Quest. She has co-produced music for independent films and created television projects such as "Kevin's Room," "40th: The Story of Roberts Temple," and the "Rap-it-Up Chicago" series. As one of the first women to DJ in Chicago's House Music scene, Lori has been featured in various documentaries, articles, and TV specials.

Lori describes her love of music as a "life-affirming, artistic extension" of herself. She currently co-hosts the Vintage House radio program on WNUR 89.3FM Evanston Chicago and WNUR.org, and serves on the board of The Modern Dance Music Research and Archiving Foundation. "My family keeps me grounded in truth, my music keeps me moving in all the right directions."

Lady D’s influence extends to radio, where she is a featured mixer every fourth Friday of the month on Vocalo.org’s DJ series (91.1 FM-Chicago) and 88.9 Radio Milwaukee.
